Tears of Joy - Blantyre, Malawi

Dear Mission Partners,

The final meeting of our Gospel Campaign here in Blantyre, Malawi has just come to an end. There was such a rapport with the people here. When I said goodbye tonight, many had tears in their eyes. It is so easy to fall in love with these people. I’m sure we will all meet again one day before the throne of God.

As always, I preached a simple but clear Gospel message tonight. I urged the people to put their faith in Jesus and many thousands responded. Afterwards, I prayed for the sick. Wonderful miracles happened, including two women who were instantly healed from painful fibroids. One of them wept for joy as she experienced relief tonight for the first time in years. What a joy to be a witness to these wonders!

Now we set our sights on Tema, Ghana, where the next campaign will take place in just a few weeks. We have heard thrilling reports from the advance team and expect a massive harvest there. Thank you for praying for us here in Blantyre. We needed them very much, and I am sure your prayers made all the difference.

I will report back as soon as I get the count of decision cards.

Yours in the Gospel, Evangelist Daniel Kolenda

Tumors Vanish! - Blantyre, Malawi

Dear Mission Partners,

It has been fascinating watching the momentum build each night here in Blantyre, Malawi. When we first arrived, you may remember that I said the attendance was very poor. We were also dealing with some negative publicity and other challenges. But now, everything has changed. For the second night in a row the attendance has nearly doubled. There is great excitement in throughout the city and everyone is talking about what Jesus is doing. I am sure your prayers have reached heaven and there is no stopping us now!

After I preached the Gospel tonight, thousands of people responded to the invitation. Peter van den Berg and I then prayed for the people to receive the Baptism into the Holy Spirit, before praying for the sick. Wonderful miracles happened:

A woman dying from AIDS was carried to the meeting tonight. For 9 years she had been bedridden and extremely sick. Tonight, she was totally healed. She was walking, running and dancing. Her sister came with her to the platform as a witness and wept as she saw her sister running on the platform. It was a beautiful moment.

A man who fell out of a tree and injured his leg, was healed tonight. He walked without his crutch for the first time in 5 months.

• A woman who had been deaf for 16 years, was healed.

Two women who had large tumors, saw them vanish after prayer! One lady literally said that before prayer she felt the tumor, and after prayer, it had disappeared. Amazing!

• …And many more.

I also asked my friend and former apprentice, Eugen Krahn, to speak to the people tonight. He blessed the people and lifted up the name of Jesus. It’s a joy to have him and his wife Diana here with us.

Tomorrow is the final night of this Gospel Crusade. I believe that the field is going to be too small. Everything the enemy meant for evil, God will turn for our good. Please pray like never before.

The Crowd Doubled! - Blantyre, Malawi

Dear Mission Partners,

The second day of our Gospel Crusade here in Blantyre, Malawi has just come to an end. This morning Peter van den Berg and I preached to the pastors and church leaders. They sat in the cold rain to hear the messages - what hunger! I believe we are going to have a powerful outpouring of the Holy Spirit tomorrow as we lay hands on the delegates.

Tonight, the crowd doubled in size. Word has gone out that Jesus is doing wonderful things. I preached on the blood of Jesus and led thousands in a prayer for salvation. Then I took authority over every curse and broke them in Jesus’ name. We then burned drums full of witchcraft charms, fetishes, amulets and idols before praying for the sick!

  • A 90-year-old woman who was suffering with many illnesses, including painful rheumatism, walked more than 50 kilometers and was sleeping on the crusade ground. She came for healing and was determined not to leave until she had received it. Tonight, all the pain left her body. She was jumping! A 90-year-old woman was jumping on the platform! It was wonderful!
  • A man’s hernia disappeared tonight after he suffered with it for 8 years.
  • A woman whose left ear was deaf for 10 years was totally healed.
  • A woman’s breast tumor vanished.

And many other wonderful miracles took place as well! Praise the Lord.

The conclusion of the Fire Conference will take place tomorrow morning. Please continue to pray for a mighty breakthrough. I am believing that the entire city will be shaken and that the field will be too small. Pray for the lost to be drawn to the meetings and for extraordinary miracles to confirm the preaching of the Gospel. Blantyre shall be saved!

Day 1 - She Felt Ice Going Through Her Body - Blantyre, Malawi

Dear Mission Partners,

I have just returned from the field on the first night of our Gospel Crusade here in Blantyre, Malawi. The crowd was not huge…certainly not what we experienced in Zambia a couple weeks ago, but the presence of God touched the meeting in a powerful way. I am sure that the word will spread like wildfire through the region.

After preaching the Gospel and praying for the sick we heard wonderful testimonies:

• A woman with night blindness can now see. Her tumor disappeared and her kidneys were healed! Her daughter was overcome with joy as she began jumping and shouting on the platform!

• A sick woman with terrible pain in her body could not stand for more than five minutes. But she said that when she stepped foot onto the crusade field, she had a sensation like ice going through her body. Suddenly, the pain was gone and she stood throughout the service without any problem for the first time in 10 years!

• A paralyzed man began to walk and then his withered hand started to move!

• An elderly woman who could not walk for two years testified that she could now walk, run and even dance! I put her to the test. Together we danced on the platform and the whole crowd danced and rejoiced with us!

• A woman brought her son who was insane and violent toward everyone. She said he would lash out at people and even beat them. Tonight, he came to his right mind and spoke gently over the microphone declaring that Jesus Christ had made him whole!

The Fire Conference also began this morning. Peter van den Berg and I preached to the many pastors and leaders who have come to receive an impartation. This in itself is a great testimony. Many of you know that Peter van den Berg was recently diagnosed with cancer and by all accounts should not have been with us. But the Lord has touched him miraculously and not only is he doing well, he is here in Malawi preaching powerfully. We are so grateful that the Lord has preserved his life! There is still much work to be done.

Please pray earnestly for us as we continue to plow the soil here in Blantyre. Despite the challenges, I believe we will see a mighty breakthrough here. Pray for Malawi to be shaken this week.

Yours in the Gospel,

Blantyre, Malawi

History

Founded in 1876 through the missionary work of the Church of Scotland the city of Blantyre received its name from the Scottish birthplace of David Livingstone, the famous missionary and explorer of Africa. He was the first white man to come to the Malawi Lake in 1859. His reports on slavery and the need for mission made the region internationally famous. It has many historic and cultural heritage resources, which constitute a vital part of the city and are crucial for its identity, cultural and social well-being for business and tourism. It became a British consular in 1883 and attained municipality status by 1895, making it Malawi's oldest municipality. Blantyre is one of the oldest urban centers in east, central and southern Africa, pre-dating Nairobi, Harare and Johannesburg, with the longest historic and cultural heritage in the region.

Economy and Infrastructure

The city's stature as Malawi's centre of commerce and industry began through its role as a centre for colonial trade in ivory. Thus, Blantyre quickly established itself as a crossroads for trade in Southern Africa. Today the city is Malawi's main manufacturing core, producing factories with shoes, cotton, metal and plastic.

Geography and Climate

Blantyre City lies in a hilly area, with varied topography ranging from an elevation of about 780 to 1,612 metres above sea level. There are three main types of topographical features: the hills, plateau and ridges. The city is classified as a humid subtropical generally cool with monthly temperatures ranging from 19 °C (66 °F) during the cool season (May to July) to 26 °C (79 °F) during the hot season (September to November).

In 1844 in Mabotsa, Africa, Dr. David Livingstone wrote,

“And although I see few results, future missionaries will see conversions following every sermon. May they not forget the pioneers who worked in the thick gloom with few rays to cheer.”
